Our History

OVDF is a 501 (c)(3) not for profit organization, with a six member Board, four volunteer team in Kenya. The organization has three goals: to make micro-loans without profit to promising individuals, to increase access to education and training and to increase access to clean water and solar energy in villages we serve.

The vision for the organization emanates from the personal life experience of the Board Chairman, who grew up in Kenya, emigrated to the U.S., received his higher education in Michigan and became a U.S. citizen. After working with African refugees in Michigan, he organized OVDF and attracted the additional five Board members. Each member joined because of identification with the vision of the foundation: interest in Africa, interest in micro-lending, interest in philanthropy providing a hands-on experience, streamlined decision making and direct impact on people.
